An Intentional Approach to Family Artistry
Hi, I’m Julie—the heart behind the lens at Honeylight Studios, a natural light photography studio based in Albemarle, North Carolina, serving families across Albemarle, Charlotte, and the surrounding areas.
Photography, for me, has never just been about taking pictures. It’s about holding onto something that would otherwise slip through our fingers—the way the light falls across your child’s face, the softness of a quiet moment, the feeling you wish you could bottle up forever.
I grew up in a world where life and loss existed side by side. My dad is a mortician, so I spent much of my childhood in and around a funeral home. It shaped the way I see the world. It taught me just how fleeting time is—and how deeply important it is to preserve the moments that matter.
That perspective lives in every image I create.
I earned my BFA in Photography from UNC Charlotte, and spent 15 years as an art teacher before opening my studio. Today, I specialize in family photography, motherhood sessions, newborn photography, and lifestyle portraits, offering both studio and natural light sessions designed to feel authentic, artistic, and timeless.
As a mom to three little ones—Micah, Tilly, and Myles—my “honeybees”—I understand just how quickly seasons change. That’s why I approach every session with intention, helping you preserve your family’s story in a way that feels honest and full of heart.
My style is soft, light-filled, and inspired by natural tones with a touch of boho warmth. I offer guidance with wardrobe and creative direction so your images feel elevated—never stiff or generic.
Whether you’re looking for a family photographer in Albemarle, NC, a maternity or newborn photographer near Charlotte, or a creative studio session with a fine art touch, Honeylight Studios is here to capture your moments in a way that lasts.
At Honeylight Studios, I don’t just take photos—I help you preserve your now… so you can carry it with you, always.
“The things that are near to you are the ones you can photograph the best. And unless you photograph what you love, you are not going to make good art.”
